3d-anatomy - licence of the work as distributed ================================================ SUMMARY ------- This work is a mix of components carrying different upstream licences. When they are combined and distributed together, the most restrictive terms propagate to the whole. The effective terms of this distribution are therefore: Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0) - https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/ In practice: * NON-COMMERCIAL. This deployment, and any redistribution of it as a whole, must not be primarily intended for or directed toward commercial advantage or monetary compensation. * ATTRIBUTION. Every source listed below must be credited. The required attribution strings are collected verbatim in the NOTICE file next to this one, and the upstream notice is shipped unmodified as public/models/License.txt. * SHARE-ALIKE. Derivative works must be distributed under the same terms. Where the non-commercial clause comes from is stated explicitly in the "Non-commercial clause" section below, because it comes from two components only. COMPONENTS AND THEIR UPSTREAM LICENCES -------------------------------------- 1. Anatomical meshes, base dataset Source: BodyParts3D, The Database Center for Life Science Licence: CC BY-SA 2.1 Japan Covers: the anatomical geometry underlying all files in public/models/. 2. Anatomical meshes, derivative and organisation Source: Z-Anatomy - the open source atlas of anatomy Licence: CC BY-SA 4.0 Covers: the reworked, named and grouped version of the BodyParts3D meshes from which every .glb in public/models/ was exported. 3. Cranial nerves and foramina Source: University of Dundee, CAHID Licence: CC BY 4.0 Covers: the cranial nerve and foramina meshes embedded in the Z-Anatomy dataset and exported with it. They are not isolated in a single file; the nerve geometry is part of public/models/nervous.glb. 4. Anatomy of the Inner Ear Source: University of Dundee, School of Medicine Licence: CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 Covers: the cochlea and vestibule meshes in public/models/nervous.glb. ---> This component is one of the two reasons the distribution is non-commercial. 5. Kidney Source: lissiecowley Licence: CC BY-NC 4.0 Covers: the kidney mesh in public/models/visceral.glb. ---> This component is the other reason the distribution is non-commercial. 6. Definitions of the anatomical structures Source: Wikipedia, with very few modifications Licence: CC BY-SA 3.0 and GFDL Covers: the descriptive text shown in the information panel. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Copyrights 7. "Brainder" and "White matter", University of Washington The upstream notice (public/models/License.txt, line 30) lists these two datasets as included and adapted, but states no licence for them. No licence is asserted here on their behalf; anyone reusing the brain meshes should check with the upstream authors. 8. Application source code (index.html, src/, public/styles/, tools/, build configuration) Written for this project and released under the same terms as the distribution, CC BY-NC-SA 4.0, so that the repository carries one coherent set of conditions. Note that Creative Commons does not recommend its licences for software; the choice here is about keeping the bundle consistent, not about software-specific concerns such as patent or source availability clauses. Blender was used to produce the exported models. Its own licence is included in the upstream 'Anatomy Blender' distribution and is not reproduced here. NON-COMMERCIAL CLAUSE --------------------- Only two components carry a NonCommercial restriction: * "Anatomy of the Inner Ear" (cochlea and vestibule, nervous.glb) - CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 * "Kidney" by lissiecowley (visceral.glb) - CC BY-NC 4.0 Everything else in public/models/ is share-alike but commercially usable (CC BY-SA 2.1 Japan, CC BY-SA 4.0, CC BY 4.0). The owner of this project has decided to keep every structure, including those two, and therefore to publish the whole work as non-commercial. If those two components were removed, the remainder could be redistributed under CC BY-SA 4.0 with attribution unchanged. That statement describes the intent of the licence stack, not legal advice: check the upstream terms yourself before any commercial use, and re-verify the contents of the .glb files, since the affected meshes are embedded inside larger files rather than shipped separately. NO WARRANTY ----------- This work is provided as is, without warranty of any kind. It is an educational and reference tool. It is not a medical device and must not be used for diagnosis, treatment or any other clinical purpose.
